As most blog readers now follow my progress through other social media, you'll probably know that 30 hours ago a very nice academic recommended that I be awarded the degree of PhD subject to some minor typographical thesis edits.
It was bloody hard work.
I can now (as it has been pointed out) sign passport photos, get into Hilarious Scrapes in airborne first aid situations, annoy everyone by having a gender neutral title, get a bit more respect from the undergrads and like, be qualified for the postdoc I've been doing for six months.
It was totally worth it.
There's the normal amount of psychological scarring and deep nerdery, but on the whole I have benefitted, I think. I am now as educated as the British taxpayer will subsidise and am unlikely to ever do a proper exam again. After 22 years, school is over.
It is hardly likely that I will stop learning. I am already planning the next adventure in putting more stuff in my brain. I bloody love it.
