So the other weekend I went out to a pretty awesome burlesque show in strange, lovely Cardiff. It was called Orgasmatron and had a sci-fi theme and a great deal of panache. Obviously, it was time to try out the electroluminescent outfit.

Second place in the costume parade? I think so. (The winner was wearing very small amounts of red and silver latex and had many raucous fans close to the stage)

The show was bloody incredible too - as well as a number of extremely strange and creative solo acts (astounding peels involving a vacuum cleaner and a hula hoop, a 'sexy' alien dentistry sketch, a fan dance to the original Star Trek theme, and an amazing Blade Runner routine with those scary ballet shoe bondage boots), there were some nicely choreographed group numbers featuring the Burlesque Cardiff troupe. Oh, and the interval act was The Sonic Manipulator (the only person in the room wearing more electroluminescent wire than me) and two pole dancers in silver leotards. The effect of the Sonic Manipulator's music was intense and confusing - the vocals on the night were distorted past comprehensibility and the beats were echoing around the old Victorian hall in a very menacing manner. I went and had a word with him, and he says he's doing a show at Green Man in August. Can't wait to see him grooving in a grove.
So yes. That was a hilarious night of mischief. I'd be joining the Cardiff burlesque troupe if it didn't require 100% attendance. Shall have to find something equally odd closer to home.
